Democrats needed another Clinton. Republicans needed another Bush (Gorge Herbert Walker, not George W). Both sides wanted, in truth, another Roosevelt.
Romney made the outrageous statement that Obama took GM and Chrysler into bankruptcy and sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China. Romney also claimed Obama was planning a $4000 tax hike on middle class families. There was no evidence for this but it stuck. Even the rarely examined countries in every region of the globe are now reassessing their relationship with the US.
