It was trying to establish whether Tony Blair and his cronies lied to the British people and dragged the country into a war on false pretences or whether it was just an honest mistake on the part of the then prime minister about the ability of Saddam Hussein to launch an attack on Britain and the West using his arsenal of weapons of mass destruction.

The witness statements at the inquiry proved that Mr Blair had conspired with the then US President George Bush to attack Iraq, whatever it took.
