The Recent ‘War’ Between Israel And Hamas Proves One Thing: The UN Is Hopeless

Anton Goryunov writes from Cairo about this about Hamas and hopeless memes about Isreal this includes The UN, war, Israel, United Nations, Israeli–Palestinian conflict, Middle East, Palestinian people, Ban Ki Moon and Tony Blair; about that recent ‘war’ between Israel and Hamas?

Lots of column inches Suspected Gaza Collaborators Face a Grisly Fate (nytimes.com) have been devoted to it but obviously no one has become the wiser and a new clash is probably not far away Hamas complains to Egypt after Israeli army kills Gazan (worldbulletin.net).

In this article you can see Israel acts based on its national interests (syracuse.com) and hardened optimists may think that there’s a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the making, especially when we have institutions like the United Nations and people like Tony Blair getting involved in achieving it.

UN-Satisfied about Palestinian "Recognition" (tufts.uloop.com) and Israeli cabinet rejects Palestinian status upgrade in UN (altahrir.wordpress.com) picks up on some interesting points of view worth a reaction.
Cast your glance back at the conflict. Remember how UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon appealed to both sides to stop the violence?

Did anyone pay any attention to him? Israel says will stick with settlement plan despite European pressure (thetruthseeker.co.uk) go play with yourself while we battle it out over here, was the response.

Not in these words exactly, but the message was definitely along these lines.  The Jewish 'Progressive' View Of The Israeli/Palestinian Conflict (gilad.co.uk) was not the first time that the second most powerful politician in the world Netanyahu: Digging Deeper (andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com).

During the previous spat between the Israelis and Palestinians that included a full-blown ground invasion Mr Ban was at it as well, calling on Israel to withdraw.

The latest ‘war’ between the Israelis and Palestinians was stopped not by the UN but by the US. Yes, Hillary Clinton, the outgoing US Secretary of State, flew to Israel and Egypt and told both sides to get their act together. Mr Ban and his lot played no part in it, nothing has changed, apart from the Palestinian leaders getting richer and happier generally.

And just look at the Arab Spring and the role the UN played in it. It approved the invasion of Libya that resulted in a very dodgy regime coming to power there. It did nothing in Egypt and it did nothing in all other parts of the Middle East and North Africa. And as for Syria, well, the UN has failed miserably to negotiate a cease fire and is basically siding with the rebels who are mostly local fanatics or Al Qaeda fighters.
