New Album Review: Alicia Keys – Girl On Fire

Freddie Matthews writes from London: The fifth Alicia Keys album, Girl On Fire, has been 3 years in the making since 2009’s The Element Of Freedom dropped on to the music scene with a mighty bang.

The mass notoriety came from Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down, a song which was a rewritten from the original version performed by Alicia Keys with Jay Z. The original went on to sell close to the 10 million mark.

Alicia Keys could go it alone but not so; she’s even roped in Brit Emeli Sande to co-write Brand New Me.

What about the album title track; Girl On Fire (featuring Nicki Minaj)? It’s exactly that. Alicia Keys is as good as putting her incredible voice on the line but what’s with The Inferno Version? It’s always surprised me that we haven’t heard much much more of Alicia Keys over the years. Stirring Trouble Internationally - A humorous take on news and current affairs.
